I'm your host, Sarah Lynn, Enneagram Invisibility Coach, and we are looking at the type four and the type seven today, which at first glance could not be more opposite on the Enneagram. But when you dig in a little deeper, you can see where the confusion might happen. Both fours and sevens are very idealistic, dreamers, creative. They appreciate the finer things in life and extra may have some extravagant taste. So you have those similarities. And then we're going to talk about in just a minute one flavor of four specifically that can very much look like the type seven. So we'll get into that in just a second. But right off the bat, type seven as a reminder is on the lookout for options and freedom and running away from emotional pain or discomfort. Choices are very important to them. Um, freedom is important. A type four is on the lookout, they're wanting, they're being driven by the need for authenticity, to be unique, to be one of a kind, running away from it, the mundane, the ordinary. The type four is in the heart center of intelligence, along with our twos and our threes, where their heart knows before their their heads or their guts. Type sevens are in the head center where thinking kind of comes first before feeling or that gut reaction. Um, being in those specific centers, shame is the core emotional struggle for um our heart center. So for the four, and it's typically shame around your image or your persona. You're not living up to the your for type four specifically, you're not living up to that idealistic version of yourself. You feel like something's missing, something's wrong with you. Um, a type seven, their emotional struggle being in the head center of intelligence is around fear and anxiety. And so a seven will deal with that by constantly being on the move, constantly being busy, not sitting still, not sitting in silence, because when they do, that creeps in. As long as they're moving, as long as they're thinking, as long as they're being stimulated, they don't have to feel that fear or that anxiety. A um type four also is more focused on the past. They tend to be more past-oriented when it comes to your time orientation, much more nostalgic, remembering what was, um, good and hard things. And then a type seven is on the other end where they are future focused, looking to go far and fast, kind of more assertive energy, thinking what's next. The type four tends to be um able, they just have the capacity to be much more deep. And we all have the capacity, that's not the best way to say that, maybe, but they enjoy being more deep. Um, and maybe naturally they have the capacity, and it comes more natural for them. And to be deep, have deep conversations, whether they're hard or uncomfortable conversations, they are there for it. They're not gonna go in and try and problem solve, they're not gonna try and reframe and put a positive spin on it. They are there for that deep and meaningful conversation. Whereas a type seven, anything hard, uncomfortable, sad, they want to run away from, it's very uncomfortable for them. So they they may tend to kind of stay on the surface level, have more light-hearted conversations, be more comfortable with the the small talk. Not to say that type sevens can't have a deep conversation, not at all, but just a one key difference, a stereotype, if you will. Um, another thing to think about is um how you get your needs met. So a type seven um is looking outside of themselves to get their needs met with an experience, some sort of event, a stimulation, a group of friends, um, materialistic things that they want, they're going to go get their needs met that way. Whereas a type four with our fives and our nines withdraw. They go within to get their needs met. And so for a uh four, it's thinking, um, this thinking about the the ideal world, especially the ideal version of themselves. They'll kind of go and and and dream and and think about that. Um, the other thing that they have in common, but is a clear difference, is this fear of missing out, the FOMO. Both struggle with that, but for a four, it's thinking something is inherently wrong with them. Um, they're missing something, they're defective, and everybody else around them has it. They're they're the ones missing it. And that's why they tend to struggle with their their emotional um passion, their vice is known as envy. And it's envy that it's like, gosh, yeah, I'm missing something, something is wrong with me. Everybody else has it and I don't. Whereas a seven, their FOMO comes from, oh my gosh, I have so many choices, I have so many options. Um, if I make a decision, if I choose one, if I choose one idea over the other, then what about I'm missing out? If I go to this, then I'm missing out on that. If I go there, then I'm missing out over here. And so their FOMO has to do again with outside of themselves. If you're still struggling with this, I'm gonna give you just something else that can can trip people up here. Um, there is something called subtypes, where we will get into at a different type, but that's those subtypes are below your dominant type. And there's three different subtypes that will flavor how your dominant type is expressed. And there is a subtype four that is known as the self-preservation, and also get nicknamed tenacity or sunny. Sometimes they might mistype as a three because they're very hard workers, will work a lot for their goals and their dreams. Um, but then also they get dubbed as the sunny um nickname because they experience deep feelings, um, but they will hide those because they don't want to isolate um the people around them and make them feel um uncomfortable or weird in any way. And so they'll put on this sunny, happy, positive front, even though they're feeling those deep situations, those deep feelings. Um, whereas a seven, not that they're not capable of that, that is the work for the seven, um, but they will run away from those feelings. They they are capable of having them, but the hint of them when they're we're in that average level of health, they're gonna run away from, they're gonna ignore, so they're gonna be very out of touch with what their feelings are. So a four, that self-preservation subtype four will be in touch with those deep feelings. They're just gonna have that sunny front. So that's sometimes where the where the confusion can come from. We'll get more, much more into all of this inside know your number sessions that I hold one-on-one with individuals. We have some pre-fun work, we get into it together one-on-one, and then there is some post follow-up to continue to help support you and guide you on your typing journey, and then also um on your journey for how to actually use this. Um, if that's something you would like to learn more about, the details are over at Sarah Lynco.com.
